Introduction
MC2 is a group of researchers spanning the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Information Technology.
We help Monash researchers to make the best use of high performance computing in their work. Our expertise is
in software engineering, algorithm developement, parallel computing methods, mathematical computing, visualization
etc.
Scientific research involving high performance computing at
MC2
- novel computational algorithms
- techniques for collaborative development of scientific software
- scientific simulation on distributed computing grids
- applications in geodynamics, material science, optimization, engineering, fluid dynamics
Codes developed by
MC2 and collaborators, tools for scientific computation, facilitating scientific research
- Nimrod, Nimrod/o, Nimrod/g - parallel parametric studies and inversion
- Nimrod/oi - Interactive inversion
- Geodynamics software
- Lagrangian particle finite element methods
- The Epsilon Laboratory
- The Earth Process Simulation Laboratory at Monash University - An inter-disciplinary laboratory dedicated to the integrated physical and numerical simulation of Earth processes (colocated with the sputnik cluster)
- Sputnik — the MC2 / VPAC Satellite Cluster
- MC2 operates a science faculty VPAC satellite cluster at Monash. VPAC is the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing - Monash is a member of the partnership. We provide a basic cluster which is binary compatible with one of the VPAC supercomputers and uses the same queueing/scheduling systems and has the same suite of installed packages. The facility serves as a software development platform and can be used for on-site science demonstrations.
- vizLounge
- a small-scale visualization / seminar room colocated with Sputnik for presentations with large computational needs (coming in 2004 !!)
- vizKitchen
- a networked meeting room and experimental communications area (coming in 2004 !!)
